Recommended Read

I would highly recommend reading the new book, September 11 In History, A Watershed Moment?, edited by Mary L. Dudziak. The book features a very well written essay by Dr. Sherman Jackson, Islam(s) East and West: Pluralism between No-Frills and Designer Fundamentalism (Duke University Press). Highly recommended. Order from Amazon or Duke.

I have read some excerpts of this book, and it is now on my amazon wishlist. It looks pretty amazing - even the cover is sweet!

    Salam!

I’ve talked to you a few times on MSN, introduced to each other through David the Scott in Australia married to the Lebanese.

I was at the Dr. J program and was one of the organizers. The crazy thing is that I was sitting next to you on Sunday, in the last session upstairs. We were joking about your toe pain problems! Man when I got home I realized who you were!

You probably don’t even remember me from the MSN, we just talked a few times. Anyhow it was good seeing you. We plan on requesting Dr. J to come by every few months for different intensives. Sirah, Intellectual History, Islamic Law, Islam in America, etc. are just some of the topics, insha’llah!

    Nice Meeting You!

Salaams. It’s funny, I never knew your name and wanted to get your email address. My toe was really killin’ me too by the time I got home. Old age, I guess (!!). Well, life’s funny like that. It was cool to meet you. I talk to Daood all the time. I do remember talking to you with him on MSN - “It’s a small world after all…” I hope to come back up again soon - we’ll have to get together for coffee/lunch or something. Keep in touch and let me know if I can do anything to help. Salaams.
