So what happens when you give a professional photographer an inexpensive, point-and-shoot camera? Who knows! But that’s exactly what Philly Shots is. The project started when I was a little more than burned out with pursuing professional photography. I wanted to find a way to recharge myself (which I need to do from time to time) artistically, to go back to the basics which led me to pick up a camera in the first place. Nothing technical – nothing fancy. Just looking with my eyes first and foremost and reacting to what I saw. That’s Philly Shots.
Philadelphia couldn’t be a better place to recharge one’s photographic soul. The city has a very wide range of subject matter, in terms of its people, its neighborhoods, its architecture and more. I find myself always looking with fascination at Philadelphia, scoping out the next selection for Philly Shots.
I hope you’ll take a few moments to view the images. All images from the project are available for purchase. The printing is done by Dalmatian Labs in North Carolina. Dalmatian is just about the finest lab for black and white reproduction in the States. Prints start at $150 for an 8×10. The PayPal store is being set up so contact me if you’ve got questions. Thanks and enjoy Philly Shots (also viewable here).

A fantastic site, and brilliant effort. A great piece of work.+
i love this site.
Oh o ho! very nice site!e
Beautiful pictures. You really get Philly.
Lee’s Hoagie House, mmmmm. Try the Chicken cheesesteak with fried onions and hot peppers…it’s photogenic.
I’ll have to try Green Line Cafe next time I’m in town…why no love for Dear Old Penn?
Thanks, Musa. Lee’s does indeed have a good hoagie although I’m finding Fu-Wa, which is right here West Philly is killin’! You’ll have to try them next time you come around. They’re about four blocks up on Baltimore from the Green Line Café (47th & Baltimore).
If you take requests…I’d love to see a “gentrification and privilege” series on Univ. City.
So noted. In fact, I have been planning to write something on that for some time now. I will compile some notes. Thanks!
Salaams…
with photos? 40th and Chestnut still has an interesting blend of old and new.
