One of the main goals and objectives of this blog is to analyze and comment on the phenomenon of Islam in America. That focus takes a look at the various manifestations Islam in America takes, from indigenous American Muslims [both converts and those native-born] to immigrant Muslims [including native-born but foreign “occupied” Muslims] and the how these various individuals and groups carry out their respective interpretations of Islam. In addition, in the tradition of cultural theory, I offer up various critiques and advice, based on my own observations as a Blackamerican Muslim situated in my studies of the social sciences.
While the Manrilla Blog was an idea born of my own over seven years ago, I have always welcomed the input from its readership. I wish to continue that spirit but now I am placing a few more requirements on commenting: first, a full name and e-mail address. This may seem trivial but this will allow me first, to establish a personal contact with those who take the time to read this blog [and for that, I thank you!] as well as helping to ensure the honesty of those who commentate. I have witnessed a tendency by commentators at other blogs as well as this one to leave hostile comments without leaving a name. Hostility will not be tolerated, though controversial or even heated debate, as long as it is camped in good nature, will always be welcomed.
So with those few words, I look forward to continuing to engage with all of you and of course, I thank you for taking the time to read and contribute to this enterprise.
Marc Manley
