First Image From AME On Display At UPenn Design Staff/Faculty Show
July 21, 2007 | 07 Rajab 1428

I will be submitting one of the images from my new project, AME [The American Muslim Experience] at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design Staff art show. The image is one of Shaykh Hajj Musa, a long standing resident of the Philadelphia Muslim community. The print is a large-format ink jet print [54 inches by 36 inches] - you can see the image as well as the print one coming off the plotter below. I will inform you of any additional shows. Prints will be on display at the School of Design starting Monday, July 23rd [34 & Walnut, Philadelphia]. The show is a short one so if you happen to stop by in the next week or so it along with the other staff/faculty images should be up. Below is a preview of the image as well as the print coming off the large-format plotter. Enjoy.

Collaborating with Zaytuna
June 27, 2007 | 12 Jumada al-Thanni 1428

As seen in a previous post, Hamza Yusuf from Zaytuna came and visited the City of Brotherly Love. In doing so I took a few shots and now you can seem them on Zaytuna’s Web site on the Community Window section of the site. See here. God willing, it can be the first of other collaborations to come.

Sunday With IMB
June 18, 2007 | 03 Jumada al-Thanni 1428

Many thanks to IMB for putting on such a good talk. I was sorry I was unable to make imam Zaid’s talk earlier in the day. IMB is really showing themselves to be one of the premiere organizations in the area. With their past events of the Islam In America series, the Quba Institute, and now this collaboration with Hamza Yusuf and Zaytuna, I can only hope for further programs. As someone I’ve watched, listened to, learned from and observed grow over the years, Hamza Yusuf was someone I have eagerly awaited to meet first hand. Thanks to IMB, I was able to do so. I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to sit and discuss some matters with him. He is a very gracious man who works tirelessly for the Muslim community. And whether you agree with everything or anything he has to say, you must respect his work ethic and genuine concern for the quality of life for Muslims in this part of the world. Thank you, Hamza, for being patient with my questions! I can run at the mouth sometimes. I would also like to extend a personal thank you to imam Anwar Muhaimin for allowing me to “sit in” as it were. I would strongly encourage folks who are in the area to keep an eye on IMB and what they are doing. May God reward them for their efforts. I took a few shots of the event, seen here.

Bryant & Virginia Jennings
April 21, 2007 | 04 Rabbi al-Thanni 1428

It is my pleasure to announce to the world the union of Bryant and Virginia Jennings today, April 20th, 2007. Bryant and Virginia hired me to shoot their wedding and it was a real pleasure. The young couple looked dazzling on their special day - all I had to do was show up and take pictures of pretty people. Thank you so much, Bryant and Virginia. You both looked beautiful and I’m very happy for you both. I hope to speak to you both soon and congratulations again. Damn!, these was some good lookin’ white folks [just kiddin’!…]!! Enjoy.

Thoughts On Technology In the Modern Age
December 09, 2006 | 18 Dhul-Qadah 1427

Writing Tools - Shot w/LG-V camera phone I suppose I should preface my post here by stating that I am, first and foremost, still alive. I have dropped off the radar for a bit due to heavy school and work obligations. But rest assured, I am still here and have not been idle. I am working on a new series of photographs entitled Philadelphian: The Low-Fi Shots Series (series info here), with a focus on city life and public transportation. The two themes interweave, showing what it’s like to travel around in a city like Philadelphia. It’s also an exploration into the technology of photography. Some may take that to mean mega pixels and CF cards, which it could. Rather, my intention is to explore the limitations (if any) and the nature of photographing with what I term a “low-fi” technology: my cell phone camera. By using a small camera like my LG-V (9800), I am able to artistically crawl into tighter spaces, producing images that are both intrusive, candid and emotionally revealing. But the purpose of this post isn’t to talk about the new body of work per se, but rather the role of technology, not just in photography but other aspects of modern life as well. Low-Fi Shots - Blah, Blah, Blah
November 25, 2006 | 04 Dhul-Qadah 1427

In an effort to procrastinate my school work even further, I decided to write a little blurb about the series since so many have found them of interest. Enjoy.
