غير وحدة
March 27, 2008 | 20 Rabbi al-Awwal 1429

لأجلس بوحدي لن أتعلم الوحدة

ما علمته طوال عيشي كله

لأجس في غرفة مزدحمة

لن أدري صداقة آخرين

السماء الحجرة النسيم ريحة الماء

لن أجلس بوحدي

النجوم القمر و ليل غير سحائب

أغشي في حضوره

أغمض العين غشى الليل

لست بوحدي

أكل الفكر كله بالظل

الصوت يذوي من لون العالم كله

ما زلت بوحدي

  1. Marc Says:

ُTo sit alone is to never know solitude

I have never known it my entire life

To sit in a crowded room

I have never known the company of others

Sky. Rocks. Breeze. The scent of rain.

    I have never sat alone

Stars. The moon and a cloudless night

I am over awed at The Presence

    Eyes closed. Night falls

    I am not alone

    All thought eaten by darkness

Sound fades from the color of the world

    Still, I am not alone

Did you write that? From your About page, I gather that Arabic is not your mother tongue so I’m impressed! God knows it’s a difficult language to learn.

  3. Marc Says:

Yes, I wrote the above piece. I am not a native speaker of Arabic but I have studied and taught it for about 14 years now. I was recently reading a piece on the history of grammarians of the Arabic language and it seems many of the greats were non-Arabs. Persians seem to rank quite highly amongst them. Perhaps that’s why so many foreign nationals are better at English grammar than are native-born Americans. Perhaps it’s in one’s nature to not pay as close attention if it’s your own tongue? Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Akram Says:

    السلام عليكم يا قصيد
ما هذا يا أخي انه لشعر حميل تكتبه بيدك المباركة.
أمد الله في عمرك لتكون من أفضل المسلمين على وجه المعمةرة.

    أخوك أكرم أبو عيطة

  5. B Majnun Says:

Masha Allah, that was heavy bru’h!

It’s so true that foreign students tend to be better at grammar than native speakers. I met this Nigerian brother in an Arabic class who spoke perfect Queens English and knew all the grammatical terminology - jussives, subjunctives, pluperfects!
Unless educated in a grammar school native speakers don’t usually study the rules of ones own language. Don’t know our verbal nouns from our elbows!

Bro Marc, make du’a this talib da’if gets to grip with his Arabic studies, struggling man.
