Charles

A very good friend of mine, Charles, has just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of end-stage cancer. Charles is like my little brother. He is only 26 years old. Unbelievably, we spoke perhaps a little more than a week ago about him moving to Philadelphia to stay with me. I am in shock, to say the least. So please, keep him in your prayers, du’ah, thoughts and all.

GOD’S ALCHEMY
Green elements turn into golden ones when
God’s breath flows across them
Gold dust motes float down as slowly as
elephants sinking into mud for a cooling bath
The whole golden earth turns its face to the dark
as its spine stands still and its tilt wobbles slightly
We turn our faces to the sunlight once or twice in a
day if our hearts are slow in jumping over turnstiles
I look up at the Spring trees and see some
leaves where the sun shines through turn
transparently golden
O God shine through us the way
the sun shines through these transparent leaves and
ignites them
and turns them golden

The power of love is such that what you feel for him has caused us each in our own way to love him too-a perfect stranger, a fellow human being we make du’a for.
Keep the faith.

Hi Marc,
May Allah (swt) grant you and Charles patience during this time, Ameen. It is a tough time, and the most you can do is continue to rely on the Sustainer of ALL life.
Take care,
