غير ملقب

جالسا في حديقة و شقشقت العصفور تكسيرا الهدء

فتت وجهي إلى التراب

هراب أمام واجبي و حُبِسَ إماني

أتغني أغنيات الهرطقيين الذين يجلسون في صواوين هائزا الموازن عندها أعمالهم

لابسا فميصا أخضرا و أرغب لكأس الشاي

بإذن الله أسحج ذنوبا من جندي مجهول

تهدهدني القطرس بأغنيتها الحزينة

In American english usage, barrio, the Spanish word meaning “district,” designates a Spanish speaking neighborhood in an urban setting. The Arabic original, barriya, designates quite the opposite: it means “the unpopulated area outside the city walls.” Just for your buddy :)

    Will!

You are absolutely amazing! Only you would know this!

  3. Marc Says:

Sitting in a garden, the Sparrow chirps, shattering the silence,

    My face crumbles to dust.

A coward before my duty, my faith is imprisoned.

I sing the hymns of the Heretics who sit in tents, mocking the scales that hold their deeds.

Wearing a green tunic, I long for a cup a tea,

By God’s leave I scrape sins from an unknown soldier.

The Albatross lulls me to sleep with her sad song.

    Salam,

Beautiful poem/translation, and very interesting point made by Will! Jazaakumaa Allaahu khayran.

    Wa ‘alaykum Salaam and thanks!

Will is a good friend who has many fascinating insights.

For some reason, I have been in the mood to write a bit of poetry, not in any Classical style, mind you, but just playing about with words and emotions. Helps to keep my Arabic sharp [well, not sharp enough to cut myself but I can cut my way out of a paper bag!]
