Happy 74th Birthday, Dad!
April 27, 2007 | 10 Rabbi al-Thanni 1428

I would like to wish my father a very happy 74th birthday! It is hard to believe it’s 74. How fast time flies! But the more time passes the more I feel truly blessed to have a man such as you as my father. I thank God that I was blessed to have such a self-sacrificing man such as you to love and care for me since the day you helped bring me into this world. You have given me everything I want and often more than I deserved! I know there is little I can ever do to repay that debt so instead I honor and cherish that blessing by wishing you many happy returns. Love,

Marc, you so lucky to have your father still here. My father passed back in 1999 at the same age of 74, about 8 months before he turned 75. He developed emphysema, heart disease, and prostate cancer. He was a hard working man and always made you smile. I want to tell anyone that reads this to enjoy people when they are here. Many times, people take life as it is and just coast along. After someone passes, then they want to have some kind of big celebration. Celebrate the person while they’re here to celebrate along with you. Life is too short to let times go by without telling people how you feel about them. So to Marc, that was a nice thing to dedicate a page to you father on his 74th birthday. Many people would’ve waited until he was 75. But like I said earlier, 75 may never come.

    Anthony,

Thanks, man. And I am sorry for your loss. I realize now that my dad is not always going to be here. In a way, through him, I realize I’m not always going to be here as well. Life has but one guarantee - death. But none of us knows when our time is going to come. I hope to go back to visit them in a week or two. Thanks for the kind words. Wish I could have met your dad. Sounds like a great guy.

P.S. - my dad was a post office guy, too. 37 years and then retired [only to get another job! He’s still workin’! Can’t get him to stop].
