Philly Shots - The Final Approach
April 23, 2006 | 25 Rabbi al-Awwal 1427

Yep. Finals are almost here. I’m on lock-down in the house trying to desperately stuff knowledge in my head. Well, it’s not so bad. I’ve got a lovely view out of the window of pigeons nestled on the power lines. That, combined with the rain and some Gill Evans and the new Charles Lloyd album, Jumping The Creek (review coming soon on the Music Blog) has made for a meditative day. Only two shots for you today.

Enjoy.

For me, finally, not a Super Hero, not an angry man, not a man in denial, we have an honest portrait of a man facing himself.

Not a Manrilla Mountain, not a monster, any exaggeration, or Thor’s Hammer, a man with no label, a man for all seasons; the man I first met and shared tea and tuna with in the “Ghetto Studio”, and with no battery on his shoulder. We go back to a time when there was no threat in his demeanor. He is a man of peace after all. Thank the inevitability.

Finally, I see in his eyes, he has completed some sort of circle, not yet entirely mapped, charted and incorporated, and etched into his character. Faith has presented a choice of paths, and he knows what the right next step is, and in what direction to place it. I am glad.

Michael - you really are a poet! Thank you for these kind and insighful words. I hope we can share tea and tuna again in the Ghetto Fabulous Studio.

    Nice tribute!

I listened to the Charles Lloyd and loved it..
I grew up listening to jazz but I don’t really know much about it. I only have Coltrane and Miles Davis at home.
Have you listened to someone named Billy Robinson?

  4. Marqas Says:

I haven’t listened to Billy Robinson - I will have to look him up. Charles Lloyd is great - highly recommended.
