The Hurricane Situation

First, I have to say I have the people down there in my thoughts and prayers. It’s beyond simple words. Second, is the outrage at what’s being done. I have some more to comment on this event, for it is an event, not Mother Nature (more on that in a bit). For now, listen to this audio interview of the Mayor of New Orleans and his outrage with Bush and how he’s not reacted to this affair.

I cannot comment in scathing detail regarding any discrepancies between his words and actions. Rather, I can sympathize on a very small level at how this administration seems to not take this tragedy seriously. I guess that’s really the point. I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine this afternoon regarding this fact and he made a curious observation: T.V. crews and news people can make their way to a disaster area in no time flat and yet the wheels of government spin all-too slow. And is their slow spinning do to the nature of how things must make their way down the chain of command or is it more simply the outlook of this administration that poor people of color are not a priority (unless they live in a foreign land with lush, natural resources)?
