May the People of London Forgive Us
July 11, 2005 | 05 Jumada al-Thanni 1426

There’s nothing that can be said that I feel will do any good in terms of soothing the people who have suffered at the hands of the recent attack. At this point it is not important that it was done by Muslims or not (I will get to this in a minute). What matters the most is that innocent people were murdered. If we take the saying, “To kill one man is to kill all Mankind”, then what matters most is the carnage and the loss of life, both of those who died and the lives that are lost when someone dear is taken from us. I wish I had some words that could soothe the wounds and the gapping wholes that are now there. But I don’t have any. All I can do is try to educate myself and those around me such that no human will ever wish to take such actions again. Because the people who did this are some pretty sick people. If they were indeed Muslim then their “reward” will never be Paradise. There is no justification by Qur’an and Sunnah to allow someone to mass murder people. We, as Muslims, must work to educate other Muslims. We must work at an accelerated rate because even though 95% of us may condem these attacks it’s also 95% of us that will suffer the consequences of this 5%. My deepest sympathies to the people of London.
