A Man and His Book

Qur'an

I’ve just been chillin’ out in the room today. It’s muggy as all get out. Nasty weather. Precious hates nasty weather. But I did get out my camera and fool around.

A New Look
July 04, 2005 | 28 Jumada al-Ula 1426

So, yeah. I decided to “try” and make my life a little easier by turning over the helm of blogging to Blogger. I’ve got so many things going on, with my moving to Philly and all, that I thought maybe it’d be cool if someone else did the background work. I’ll post the archives in a format somehow at a later date. In the meantime, however, I will say that I got Professor Jackson’s book, Islam and the Blackamerican (Oxford University Press) in the mail and haven’t been able to put it down. I won’t try to make a big comment on it yet - just that’s it’s big and it’s very, very significant. A further review will come shortly.

War of the Worlds
July 04, 2005 | 28 Jumada al-Ula 1426

I have only one thing to say: Save yer money. Okay,
I lied. I’ve got a couple more things to say.

This movie really sucked. The guys over at ILM must be hard up for work cuz to me, that’s all War of the Worlds was. A big money shot for the effects team. I have no idea why Speilberg makes films anymore. And Tom Cruise as well, for that matter. It was just horrible. No story - no plot. I was surprised Tim Robbins would put his name to this movie. He seems like he’s a credible guy. So yeah. Save yer flippin’ money. This one’s one for Davey Jones’ locker.

Name That Movie
July 04, 2005 | 28 Jumada al-Ula 1426

Okay. A free Tweenkie to the one that gets the right answer:

The Matrix is a system, Neo.
That system is our enemy.
But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see?
Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters.
The very lives of the people we are trying to save.
But until we do, these people are a part of that system…
… and that makes them our enemy.
You have to understand…
… most of these people are not ready to be unplugged.
And many of them are so inert…
… so helplessly dependent on the system…
… that they will fight to protect it.

Sooner or later you’ll realize just as I did…
… there’s a difference between knowing the path…
… and walking the path.
