Finalmente, recibí el número de SLAM Magazine, la revista que me contrató a tomar fotos de un atleta joven. Es excitante ver tu obra en una revista por la primera vez. Fue la primera vez mi obra ha sido publicada en una revista mayor.

Karaoke: Fuimos al Karaoke Kid (un bar de karaoke) anoche. Fuimos con Mauricio, su hermana y su novia y unos otros amigos. El bar estaba lleno y tuvimos que esperar por quince minutos para entrar. Karaoke es siempre divertidísimo y nos divertimos mucho. Mauricio tomó alcohol por la primera vez en un año (tequila, por supuesto). La novia de Erica tomó mucho también y no podía caminar al carro por si misma. Erica quería regresarnos a su casa a tomar más tequila pero nos tuvimos que despertarse temprano. En todo, fue buena diversión.

Pensando en Monterrey: México es un paíz fascinante. Era más diverso de lo que yo había pensado y Monterrey era mucho más diferente de lo que había imaginado. Había imaginado una ciudad más colonial. Sin tantas fabricas. Sin tanta industria. Este viaje era mi primera vez que iba a México y no sabía que esperar. Pero ahora, sabiendo lo que ya sé, quiero regresar. Hay tanto más que ver.

How ironic that today, Edgewood College, held a forum on race relations in an attempt to bring issues to the forefront, so that a ‘healing process’ may begin. After leaving the discussion I went straight to my staff meeting where two senior members of my staff, one of them the director, were discussing this issue in detail. They had smug smiles on their faces as if the whole idea of having a discussion about racism was silly. As I sit down, my boss says, “Well, if it’s so bad here, why stay here? Why not leave?” Wow, isn’t that nice. I guess we really shouldn’t try to eliminate racism, we, being people of color, should just keep moving. Well, my response to that is, “We’ve already tried that.” It’s called moving from the South to the North. But guess what? Racism ain’t no different up here than down there ’cause you still got the same racist suckers everywhere you go. So, I hope Edgewood College’s students take this statement to heart, especially the students of color and drop out of Edgewood and go somewhere else. You know, maybe he’s got something there.

Wew…, it was a great trip. Over 1,700 miles covered by car alone but here we are, back in action. I’m way too tired right now to even start writing about the trip but the info will be up soon as well as photos. Good night.
